Import a CSV into a Kanban Board

Already tracking work in a spreadsheet? Upload it and every row becomes a card — with lists, swimlanes, milestones, labels, due dates, and assignees built from your columns. Nothing to map, nothing to configure.

Importing needs a free account, since the new board lands in your workspace.

How it works

1. Export what you have

Any spreadsheet works — Excel, Numbers, or Google Sheets. Save it as CSV with a header row.

2. Name the board

Give the new board a name, choose your file, and upload. Columns can be in any order.

3. Start dragging

Your lists, cards, labels, and milestones are created for you — ready to drag from to-do to done.

The columns

A header row with any of these names, in any order. Only Title is required — rows without one are skipped.

ColumnWhat it does
TitleThe card's name. Required.
ListThe column the card lands in — created if it doesn't exist yet.
SwimlaneOptional row grouping, for splitting a board by team or epic.
MilestoneGroups cards toward a target; created automatically.
LabelsOne or more tags. Separate several with a semicolon: UX; Priority.
AssigneesEmail addresses, semicolon-separated. Matched against your team members.
ColorCard color: red, orange, yellow, green, blue, purple.
PointsA story-point estimate, as a number.
Start / DueDates, ideally YYYY-MM-DD.
DescriptionThe card's long-form detail. Markdown is supported.

Frequently asked questions

Is importing free?

Yes. Import as many boards as you like — there's no paid tier and no row limit.

Do my columns have to be in a particular order?

No. Kanbans.free reads the header row, so any order works, and columns you don't need can be left out entirely.

Can I get my data back out?

Yes — every board exports to CSV with the same columns, so you can move a board between workspaces, back it up, or take it elsewhere. Nothing is locked in.

What happens to assignees who aren't on my team?

They're skipped rather than invited. Assignee emails are matched against your existing workspace members, so an import can't quietly add people to your team.
